The Kirkwood School
Coalition
A class list for children
entering Kindergarten in the years 2006-2012 has been developed by
The Kirkwood School Coalition. Kirkwood has 160 children who
will enter school during that time. The purpose of this list
is to show the strength and support network that will be in place
should parents make the decision to send their child to our
neighborhood elementary school. Currently the school faces
declining enrollment. The three kindergarten classes have 9 children
in each class. The Pre-K program has one class with 16 children and
3 teachers. Should they add a Pre-K class, they will add two
more teachers to the Pre-K staff. If all parents in Kirkwood
send their children to Toomer Elm., the classes will become a better
reflection of the racial and economic diversity Kirkwood
offers. Having parents involved in the school will insure that
Toomer will become the school we all would be proud to have our
children attend.
Each class has been assigned a
Class Parent. The Class Parent updates the families in their
class about progress within the school as well as within the
coalition. While each Class Parent has different strategies
for contacting parents, all of them have the goal of introducing the
children and families to establish an opportunity to create
neighborhood friendships as well as to discuss the concerns people
have about entering Toomer.
To become a member of
The Kirkwood School Coalition means that you are interested in
meeting other families in the neighborhood and that you are willing
to begin thinking about your child’s education. We invite you
to attend social functions and to learn more about what Toomer
Elementary School has to offer. To become involved and to have
your child added to the class list, please contact Sara Jane
